While I can mediate some aspects of child support, there’s not much leeway, according to Colorado law.
In the state of Colorado, child support is calculated based on the following primary factors:
- Your income
- Your spouse’s income
- the needs of your children
- the parenting plan (including overnight visits)
- who pays for health care
- who pays for day care
- your children’s extraordinary expenses (such as braces and glasses)
- your children’s extracurricular activities (such as sports, camps, or music)
I can provide you with a child support worksheet to help determine the estimated amount you’ll be responsible for and/or what amount of monthly child support you can expect from your spouse/partner.
While child support is decided at the time of divorce or separation, it’s also frequently modified as circumstances change within the family and with the children. Rather than go to court, you can use mediation to make modifications to existing court orders or decrees involving child support if:
- your income changes
- your ex-spouse’s income changes
- your child’s needs change
